Standard safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes, multi-stage front airbags, side airbag curtains, electronic stability control and electronic roll mitigation. The independent suspension is as good as the engine, delivering steadiness and comfort in every abusive situation we could find for it, during a long day of driving on every surface from patchy two-lanes, to hard-packed dir.  As it's programmed in the Patriot, the optional Continuously Variable Transaxle (replacing the automatic transmission) is too weird to be comfortable Anti-lock Brakes✔ Tachometer✔ Heated Seats✔ Power Windows✔ AM/FM✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Air Conditioning✔ Cruise Control✔ Aluminum Wheels

2005 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The standard for suvs is completely redesigned. introductionthe introduction of the all-new jeep grand cherokee represents a bold move by daimlerchrysler. Yet its proportions are completely different from before, with more steel and less glass, a laid-back windshield, the trademark giant wheel well flares, and a slickly angular body without the cladding of the previous generations; just one small spear. The d-pillar has been laid forward, which cuts into cargo space, but it sure looks cool. It's got a replaceable chin spoiler on it, and it looks mean. Inside, it's got nearly 70 cubic feet of storage and three modern, if not brand-new, powerplants.  interior materials are dramatically improved over the previous model's, which left much to be desired. The atmosphere inside the new grand cherokee is light, comfortable, and more enveloping than the previous model, more bolted in than hanging on from the driver's perspective, with lots of seat adjustment, excellent outward vision around the relatively slim posts, and all the switches and controls clearly labeled and easy to find and use.  for the first time, a jeep can be married to the engine that put chrysler back on the map, the 5. 7-liter hemi. It's particularly good for towing or driving at higher elevations. However, we found the 4. 7-liter v8 worked great. The standard v6 is a vast improvement over jeep's old inline-6. A new suspension gives the grand cherokee much better handling, leaning less in corners, along with better ride quality. Its turning radius is tighter, too, good when driving off road or in crowded parking lots.  jeep engineers have come up with a larger, edgier and more macho suv with an engine that's among the most powerful in the segment. This is after years of being afflicted with old, weak engines and saddled with a small cargo compartment. lineupjeep grand cherokee comes in two models, laredo and limited. The basic laredo comes standard with a 210-horsepower 3. 7-liter v6 and a five-speed overdrive automatic transmission. A 4. 7-liter v8 or 5. 7-liter hemi v8 is available for both laredo and limited. Side curtain air bags are optional.  a dynamic handling system (dhs) is available as part of the quadra-drive ii 4x4 system on late-2005 hemi models. Dhs reduces body roll, or lean, when cornering, resulting in sportier handling. An electronic stability program (esp) is also available, and comes packaged with the hemi.  options include gps navigation built into the radio 1,200), a rear-seat dvd entertainment system, a trailer tow package 255), boston acoustics audio, uconnect hands-free communication system 275), smart beam headlamps that sense the available natural light and adjust accordingly, and rear park assist 1,200). The traditional off-road package 420) with tow hooks is available, along with chromed alloy wheels, and an engine block heater for winter trekking. On the limited model, the gauges are surrounded by chrome rings.  the cargo area features a reversible load floor panel that flips over on itself to create a shallow container, for more versatility in the rear storage compartment. As a system, the new interior is far better organized, more light in feeling and color, and altogether more roomy than the previous version, which had been around since 1993. driving impressionto be honest, we didn't like the old grand cherokee very much, because we never thought it was very grand. It was small inside, with a dark, confusing interior, too much plastic, really cheap seats, and not much cargo space, but always fun off-road. This new grand cherokee erases all the bad stuff about the old version, but keeps the mountain-goat-like off-road performance, finally becoming grand in the process.  the basic laredo comes standard with the chrysler-made 210-horsepower single-overhead-cam 3. 7-liter v6, borrowed from its sister trucks, the jeep liberty and dodge ram, with its own five-speed overdrive automatic transmission. The 3. 7 replaces the tired, old 4-liter inline six engine that was in the last grand cherokee and was a relic from american motors' inventory of 25 years ago (still used in the wrangler). The v6 gets an epa-rated 16/21 mpg city/highway, while the v8s get 14/21. It's coupled with new lighter, more compact and more precise power rack-and-pinion steering that's reasonably quick and accurate, and nicely weighted. There seemed to be a more flatfooted, glued-down attitude with this big jeep, with far less body roll than the previous model, which had a bit of body roll built into it that paid some comfort dividends off-road. This one is just as comfortable on- and off-road without it.  front suspension travel is increased by almost 10 percent over the previous grand cherokee, and the new steering geometry yields a tighter turning circle, which counts heavily off road. A new five-link rear suspension combined with the new steering and new front suspension produced a boulevard ride, and cornering prowess, like no other jeep in history, an enormous improvement. We don't usually go around flinging 4500-pound suvs into corners, but this one invited a little bad behavior, which was very rewarding within the limits of its tires. 2007 jeep grand cherokee review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Optional diesel engine expands lineup. introductionjeep promotes the grand cherokee as a full-size suv, but that's only partly true. In its physical dimensions and towing capacity, grand cherokee is a mid-size, like the ford explorer or chevrolet trailblazer. At the base level, it's priced like a mid-size. It isn't even jeep's biggest suv, as that honor now belongs to the commander. Yet it is instantly recognizable as a jeep. Inside, the atmosphere is light, comfortable, and enveloping, with lots of seat adjustment, excellent outward vision around relatively slim windshield post. All switches and controls are clearly are labeled and easy to find and use. In back is nearly 70 cubic feet of cargo space.  anyone familiar with grand cherokees of just a few years ago will find that the chassis is now far more sophisticated, giving the current model much better handling than that of pre-2005 models. Its turning radius is tighter, too, good for crowded parking lots.  a wide range of modern engines is available. The 5. 7-liter hemi v8 is particularly good for towing or driving at higher elevations. The high-performance srt8 model has a 420-horsepower 6. 1-liter hemi and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds. The smaller, 4. 7-liter overhead-cam v8 works quite well, too, and is offered in most states with e85 flex-fuel capability, meaning it can run on gasoline or up to 85 percent ethanol. Even the standard overhead-cam v6 is quite competent. For 2006, jeep expanded the grand cherokee model range with the luxurious overland and the high-performance srt8. For 2007, jeep has added a number of refinements. Most significantly, side-curtain air bags with roll detection are now standard on all models, and all models now offer the parkview reversing camera and active turn signals. Standard tires are wider. Remote start is standard on limited and overland, and optional on laredo and srt8. Cloth upholstery is standard. Air conditioning comes standard, along with one-touch power windows, power locks with remote keyless entry, eight-way power driver's seat, am/fm/cd audio with auxiliary input jack, driver information center, 60/40 split folding rear seat, an engine immobilizer, water-resistant storage compartment, tire pressure monitor and 17-inch wheels. Standard tires are now p245/65r17 goodyear fortera, replacing last year's 235mm goodyear wranglers. Quadra-trac ii, which includes a low range, is optional 595) with the v6 and standard with the v8. Quadra-drive ii full-time active 4wd is now optional 795) with either engine. Numerous options are available.  the limited 34,730) comes with the 4. 7-liter v8 and leather upholstery. Also standard: automatic climate control; power sunroof; boston acoustics six-speaker, 276-watt am/fm stereo with six-cd changer and mp3 capability; power adjustable pedals; power passenger seat; memory function for the seats, pedals, and mirrors; smartbeam automatic headlamps; rain-sensing automatic wipers; electrochromic rearview mirror; homelink; a more sophisticated tire pressure monitor that displays the status of individual tires; adjustable roof-rack crossrails; and machined-face 17-inch aluminum wheels. Limited 4wd 37,320) gets all that plus quadra-trac ii, with quadra-drive ii as an option. The hemi is optional 845) on both 2wd and 4wd limiteds.  the overland 39,255) comes with the 5. 7-liter hemi, and adds a wood-and-leather steering wheel, real wood accents on the doors and console, two-tone leather and ultra-suede seats embroidered with the overland logo, leather-covered console and armrest, side airbags, dvd-based navigation, sirius satellite radio, parksense rear park assist with parkview reversing camera, a trailer-tow group, and chromed aluminum wheels. Platinum accents highlight the exterior, and the front sill guards are now brushed stainless. Overland 4wd 42,690) adds quadra-drive ii.  the 3. 0-liter diesel engine is optional on laredo, limited, and overland, with 2wd or 4wd, but was not available for earlier production models.  the srt8 40,105) comes with a 6. 1-liter hemi rated 420 horsepower, a lowered suspension and its own electronic all-wheel-drive system. Distinctive bumper fascias and 20-inch wheels make srt8 instantly identifiable. Inside are sport seats, special trim, and a level of standard features roughly analogous to the limited's. Options can bring an srt8 nearly up to the overland level of comfort and convenience.  options include a rear-seat dvd entertainment system 1,200); a sunroof package 800); various trailer tow groups 180-255); uconnect hands-free communication system 275); parksense rear park assist 255); and the more sophisticated parkview, which incorporates a camera, packaged with gps navigation 1,890 with 4wd, $2190 with 2wd). It's actually smaller than a ford explorer.  in appearance, the grand cherokee is modern and square-edged, with a fashionably high waistline and small side windows. The shape of the body is designed to protect the sides of the vehicle from potential road debris. Revised taillights distinguish the '07; otherwise grand cherokee's outside appearance hasn't changed significantly since '05.  while conventional suvs, such as the dodge durango, are built on a separate frame like a truck, the grand cherokee uses an unusual construction scheme jeep calls uniframe, a close marriage of a welded steel unit-body and underlying front and rear modules. This is an extremely sturdy and rigid concept developed back in jeep's days with unit-body pioneer american motors. The grand cherokee has earned a five-star safety rating in both front and side impact tests from the federal government.  new for 2007: the base-level laredo model has been dressed up a bit. Door handles are now body-color (instead of black), and the black bodyside moldings have been redesigned.  limited models still present a flashier appearance, with a chromed grille, bright inserts in the bumpers, and accent-color bodyside molding.  the overland is distinguished by mesh-texture grille inserts between its traditional vertical grille bars, which are platinum in finish; platinum accents also appear on the bumpers, side molding, roof-rack side rails, liftgate light bar, and side-view mirrors. Wheels are chromed, and the front sill guards are now brushed stainless.  jeep has reached deep into its heritage to revive the overland name. First built in 1903, the overland automobile was the earliest ancestor of the willys. Willys played an instrumental role in the development and production of the world war ii-era jeep, but was also the first automaker to seriously envision a civilian market for a military-style utility vehicle. The willys jeep debuted in 1946 and had its name shortened to just-plain jeep in the early 1960s. Although the jeep brand has passed through several owners since then, its lineage remains unbroken.  the srt8 has a monochrome look all its own, relieved by bright trim at the belt level and bodyside and accented by enormous five-spoke, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. Functional air ducts in its more bluff front bumper fascia improve brake cooling. Srt8 is available only in bright silver, brilliant black or inferno red. In all grand cherokees, the two-tone, dark-over-light theme set by the instrument panel flows into the door trim.  the handbrake lever has a spindly, low-quality feel to it, however.  new for 2007: the finish on the upper panel has been improved. The laredo has been upgraded here for '07, with the same chrome gauge rings that used to be exclusive to the limited, plus chrome-accented hvac controls and a matching-color bezel (replacing black).
